The Community Care Ministries of The Salvation Army Barrhaven Church is an outreach service to isolated or lonely seniors through visits to nursing homes and retirement residences.
Our volunteers are committed to bringing cheer and hope to those who may be isolated due to their circumstances. Weekly and monthly visits are conducted, along with hymn-sing events. At Christmas time each resident of a nursing home facility receives a special gift.
The Community Care Members also provide nourishing snacks along with emotional and spiritual care to students at Algonquin College during exam season.
We are challenged by words from Scripture, Matthew 25:35-36, 40 that say:
‘For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink. I was a stranger and you invited me in. I needed clothes and you clothed me. I was sick and you looked after me. I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
The King will reply ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’
